Command: Connect Edge Gateway

Symbol: cas_icon_connect_edge_gateway.png

Function: The command opens the Connect or Reconfigure Edge Gateways view for configuring the Edge Gateway. Via the Edge Gateway, the PLC network is connected to the CODESYS Automation Server.

Call: CODESYS menu: Tools → Edge Gateway

Requirement:

  • The CODESYS Automation Server Connector package is installed.

  • The gateway of the current PLC is running.

Gateway hostname / IP

List box with all currently available Edge Gateways

The selected gateway has to be reachable via the network.

When you select a gateway here, the Gateway port field is updated automatically.

As an alternative to the previous step, you could also manually specify Gateway hostname / IP and Gateway port.

Gateway port

Port of the selected gateway

Check / Refresh Gateway Information

Button to check and refresh the displayed information for the gateway

Configuration mode

Shows whether or not the configuration mode is enabled.

  • Enabled: The configuration mode is enabled.

    Disable: Click the button to disable the configuration mode.

    Disable config mode after config changes:

    • standard icon: The configuration mode is disabled after each time you change the Edge Gateway configuration.

    • _cds_icon_option_deactivated.png: The configuration mode is disabled after 30 minutes and also when the Edge Gateway is restarted.

  • Disabled: Clicking the link opens the help page with information about how to enable the configuration mode of the CODESYS Edge Gateway.

    Requirement: The Use Online Help if available option is selected in CODESYS. This option is located in Tools → Options, in the Help category.

Note: When you use the Allow Edge Gateway Configuration command to enable the configuration, you also have click the Check / Refresh Gateway Information button to refresh the view. The Allow Edge Gateway Configuration command is available when you click the gateway symbol _cds_icon_gateway_running.png in the notification area of the taskbar.

Proxy URL

URL of the proxy server

Proxy user

User name for the proxy server

Proxy password

Password for the proxy server

Save proxy settings

The Proxy URL, Proxy user, and Proxy password settings are saved.

Delete proxy settings

Any current proxy settings that exist on the Edge Gateway are deleted.

Edge communication

Displays whether or not communication is enabled via the Edge Gateway:

  • Enabled

  • Disabled

Configured URL

URL of the CODESYS Automation Server for which the Edge Gateway is configured

Certificate state

Displays whether or not and for how long the certificate is valid

Temporarily Disable Edge Communication

Requirement: Configuration mode is enabled and Edge communication is enabled.

Disables the communication with the Automation Server via the Edge Gateway until you click the Enable Edge Communication button to enable it again.

Enable Edge Communication

Requirement: Configuration mode is enabled and Edge communication is disabled temporarily.

Enables the communication to the Automation Server via the CODESYS Automation Server.

Disconnect Edge

Ends the communication with the Edge Gateway and deletes the configuration of the Edge Gateway

Note: This command does not delete the Edge Gateway configuration on the CODESYS Automation Server. When you select the corresponding Edge Gateway in this view in the CODESYS Automation Server in Known Edge Gateways on server group and then click the Show Edge Gateway on Server button, the PLCs → Gateways view open on the CODESYS Automation Server. There you can click the _cas_icon_erase.png button to delete the Edge Gateway.

The following information about the certificate is displayed only when the Show details option is selected.

Displayed when the Edge Gateway is connected with the Automation Server

Name of the Edge Gateway

Vendor

Vendor of the Edge Gateway

Version information

Version of the Edge Gateway

Node name

Displayed when the Edge Gateway is connected with the CODESYS Automation Server

Displayed when the Edge Gateway is connected with the CODESYS Automation Server

Server URL

URL of the CODESYS Automation Server

Check / Refresh

Requirement: The URL of a CODESYS Automation Server is specified in Server URL.

Button to check and refresh the displayed information

Opens the Automation Server – Sign In dialog. When you click OK to acknowledge the dialog successfully, the Edge Gateway of the Automation Server are displayed in Known Edge Gateways on server.

Name on server

Requirement: The configuration mode is enabled and the Edge Gateway is not connected yet.

If you specify a new name here and then click Connect to Server, then a new gateway is created with this name on the Automation Server.

Description

This description is displayed with the gateway on the CODESYS Automation Server.

Connect to Server

Requirement: The configuration mode is enabled.

If a new name has been specified for Name on server, then the configured Edge Gateway with this new name is created on the Automation Server. The recently created gateway is displayed on the CODESYS Automation Server in PLCs → Gateways.

The root certificate of the server is transferred to the Certificate Store as a trustworthy certificate. The corresponding certificate is generated there and the thumbprint is transferred to the CODESYS Automation Server.

The information of the Certificate state field in this view in the Edge Gateway and CODESYS Automation Server groups is refreshed and shows that the certificate is valid. The Certificate thumbprint is identical in both groups.

Known Edge Gateways on server

Display the gateways that are registered on this Automation Server

Certificate state

Displays whether or not and for how long the certificate is valid

Certificate thumbprint

Requirement: The Show details option is selected.

Displayed when the Edge Gateway is connected with the Automation Server

Show Edge Gateway on Server

Opens the Automation Server displayed in Server URL with the PLCs → Gateways view. The Edge Gateway selected in Known Edge Gateways on server is also displayed there.

Network Scan on Server

Opens the Automation Server shown in Server URL with the PLCs → Network Scan view. The Edge Gateway selected in Known Edge Gateways on server is displayed, and a network scan is started automatically.

Replace Existing Edge Gateway

Requirement: The configuration mode is enabled.

Replaces the Edge Gateway selected in Known Edge Gateways on server on the Automation Server with the Edge Gateway configured in the Edge Gateway group.

If you are not signed in to the Automation Server yet, then the Automation Server – Sign In dialog opens first.

Renew Certificate

Requirement: The configured Edge Gateway is connected to the Automation Server and the configuration mode is enabled.

The certificate is renewed on the Edge Gateway and on the Automation Server. The Certificate state and Certificate thumbprint fields are refreshed in the same Connect or Reconfigure Edge Gateways view. The new certificate is valid for 6 months.

Reconnect (Repair Configuration)

Requirement: The configuration mode is enabled.

An error in the certificate is repaired. For example, if the thumbprint of the certificate was generated incorrectly, then this command corrects the error.

The detailed information Certificate thumbprint, Vendor, Version info, Node name, and Target ID / Type is displayed.
